Raise Up!
The first time that I saw hockey, I didn’t really give it much thought. I was watching it on TV and I found it hard to make heads or tails of – and not being able to keep up with the puck didn’t really help matters. Plus, my family didn’t really pay much attention to hockey, and so there wasn’t a “home” team for me to root for.
But over the past few years, I decided to give it another shot. Partially because my partner was raised on hockey (I was raised on football – Go Commanders!), partially because I’m living in the same city as a major NHL team, and partially because I got the opportunity to see some games in person as part of working for NC State (our Chancellor has historically shared his tickets with staff sometimes, and I do decently well at random drawings).
I decided to, on a whim, see if I could get some tickets for the Canes’ opening game last Thursday, and I am so glad I did. It was a blast. My partner and I had a wonderful time, and we’ll definitely be back.
It was loud, fun, and non-stop action. There were some great folks around us, too. We jumped and screamed at every one of the six goals we made. The horn, the energy, and the crowd – at over 100 dB! – made it one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long time. And it was in the middle of a staycation, too.
Can’t wait ’til my next home game. Go Canes!
